In capturing the essence of flamenco music, song and dance the artist opens the channels for the "duende" to happen. This presence of "duende" is that essence where art is achieved in its highest state and is present throughout Garcia Lorca's work. In a variety of flamenco rhythms from the somber to the lively, the company of dancers together with the musicians weave the essence of all that is flamenco through the exquisite poetry and songs of Garcia Lorca.

Fusión Flamenca – By El Rincon Flamenco Dance Company
The Joburg Theatre’s Fringe Theatre (11th – 14th March 2010)

It’s a sensual rhythm that entices your imagination– the click of a castanet, the whirl of a skirt, the guitar’s soulful sound. It’s Fusión Flamenca, and it’s brought to you by El Rincon Flamenco.

The team that delighted and dazzled three years ago with the stunning production, Caminando, is back. This time, Mireille Lenferna and Joanne Bobrow have crafted a passionate ode to this magnificent dance form, blending elements of other dance styles including African gumboot dancing and contemporary dance to create an intriguing spectacle of movement.

As usual, the production blends dramatic visual imagery with a striking musical tradition, made all the more compelling by the introduction of African percussion. The combination of this, and other musical and dance genres, makes for an unforgettable showcase of the fire that is flamenco, drawing on the dance form’s origins and influences in a vibrant show that will keep audiences spellbound.

Bobrow and Lenferna’s previous production, Caminando, enjoyed great acclaim and has toured throughout South Africa and India. Once again, the studio teams with international flamenco star Rosana M
aya, who will be making a guest appearance. Joining the dancers on stage are Rudo Van Staden and André Liebenberg, who make up the local acoustic guitar duo, Mischief’
